CEM increases subsidy to maintain tariff unchanged for all Tariff A customers
Macau, 23 April 2013
Due to Renminbi appreciation causing an increase of the electricity importation cost, according to the calculation under the concession contract, the 2nd quarter TCA will increase 1 cent to 45 cents per kWh. Nevertheless, concerning the impact of a lifting TCA to the residential and SME customers, and fulfillment of its social responsibility, with the support of Macau SAR Government, CEM decided to maintain the Tariff A TCA at 36 cents per kWh, an increase from 8 to 9 cents per kWh of subsidy in comparison with the previous quarter.
CEM announces the Tariff Clause Adjustment (TCA) of the 2nd quarter of 2013 for Tariff A (mainly residential customers and small and medium enterprises supplied with low voltage, more than 99% of all customers) will remain unchanged at 36 cents per kWh, while Tariff B, C and D will be adjusted to 45 cents per kWh according to the contractual calculated value.
This time Renminbi appreciation causing an increase of the electricity importation cost is the main reason leading to the increase of TCA. Even though the operational costs continue to rise, CEM has been reducing the receipt of the TCA to manage the electricity tariff rise since 2008.
With objective of sustaining reliable power supply at reasonable prices, CEM is fully committed to strengthening its operational efficiency and customer service.
