In a bid to enhance communication with the engineering industry and increase the transparency of customer service, CEM recently held a seminar at CEM Building to introduce the electrical contractor registration mechanism and application procedures for subscribed demand increase and electricity supply to ensure electrical engineers have a clear understanding of relevant requirements.

More than 50 electrical contractors and representatives of Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Macau Construction Association, Macau Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Association of Macau Electricity Professionals and Association of Macau Electricians attended the seminar, including Cheang Io Tung, Director of Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Andy Tam, Standing Director of Macau Construction Association, Tang Peng Tim, Director of Association of Macau Electricity Professionals and Chan Hon Choi, Director of Association of Macau Electricians. Luella Wong, CEM Customer Services Department Metering Service Management Manager, introduced the electrical contractor registration mechanism for 2015, while Chris Chao, Senior Engineer of Network Planning, Design and Construction Department, introduced the application procedures for power demand increase, electricity supply in new buildings, and temporary power supply. Luella Wong said if the application for new supply involves the operational license of electrical installation (commonly known as the 7th Category License), an electrical contractor that is registered at CEM will be needed to take charge of the engineering project. Under the new application arrangement, more than one electrical contractor from a company can be included into the Electrical Contractor List. Applicants need to be holders of Macau identity cards and submit forms such as Business Registration M1 and M8. Company employees will be required to provide a certificate of employment issued by employer as well as a local employee list issued by social security authority. A CEM committee will then assess the knowledge of applicants. Luella Wong reminded that the registration on the Electrical Contractor List is valid for two years. CEM will issue a warning letter or even freeze the application upon detecting substandard engineering quality.

Chris Chao elaborated on the application procedures for power demand increase, electricity supply for new buildings and temporary electricity supply in details, in a bid to make the application process smoother. For example, customers should ask CEM for the existing electricity device plan before the construction starts for the application of new buildings, and communicate with CEM inspectors throughout the construction. Meter will not be installed until the electrical installations are examined and connected to the public power grid. As for the application of temporary electricity supply, customers need to submit the location floor plan and construction or foundation license issued by the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau.

Participants seized the opportunity to voice their opinions at the seminar. Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee; Keegan Cheang, Senior Manager of Customer Services Department; and Wanda Clemente, Senior Manager of Network Planning, Design and Construction Department answered the questions of attendees. Participants expressed their gratitude to CEM for holding the seminar and hoped the company can organize more seminars to improve the industry’s professional standards.
